"Welcome to New Angeles...hope you enjoy your stay."

New Angeles - home of the Suiciders. Where death matches replace those terrible reality TV shows we've grown so fond of, and you're the outcast if you haven't been aesthetically altered in some way. After "the big one" hit the metropolis formerly known as Los Angeles, it's culture and humanity was decimated and it's civility followed suit.

The government has abandoned its people, leaving them to the mercy of their own survival instincts. Using the need for survival as the basis of it's entertainment, New Angeles has ignited the industry of the "Suiciders". A TV series centered around Gladiator-style death matches between physically augmented Suiciders so brutal that Maximus himself would piss that cute little tunic of his.

Shrouded beneath the extravagant and savage exterior of the high-octane action and blood-stained wrist blades lies a clandestine underworld that seems ripe for deception, duplicity and illegal dealings of all kinds. Where getting into New Angeles is the dream and getting kicked out is a nightmare.

The very first image you see when you flip that beautiful cover (illustrated by the writer himself) is a seemingly war-torn statue of the Christian deity Jesus Christ on the crucifix, with our (let's call him) hero knelt before it. "The Saint" mentally prepares himself to fight for his life and to defend his title of reigning champion of New Angeles. The overall tone of this scene seems somber as hell. Blue tints shower the page and the image of Christianity's fallen hero hangs over the man. "It's time to begin", says a figure behind him. After being escorted down a dingy hallway, he is greeted by a couple men in jumpsuits who greatly resemble members of a NASCAR pit crew.

The "klick-klack"-ing sound of heels heading towards the same door belong to a "takes-no-shit" journalist named Sheila Sutter who shares not only the same tenacity and determination with the likes of Vicki Vale and Lois Lane, but also the same affinity for names of an alliterative nature. She is granted access to The Saint's (for lack of a better term) dressing room and walks in on what looks like an Ivan Drago training session.

Without giving away any more of the plot, an interview follows and The Saint is released into the arena to the sound of thunderous applause. Let the battle begin.

Lee Bermejo (Batman: Noel, Joker graphic novel) is at the helm of this series, with the help of Eisner Award winning colorist Matt Hollingsworth. If you are familiar with the work of either of these gentleman, I HIGHLY suggest picking up this book. It promises to be a wild ride.

Before I go, I'd like to take this opportunity to congratulate my local comic book shop Bill's Bullpen and it's owner Bill, who have been given recognition by our local Chamber of Commerce for "Best Retail Business." Outstanding customer service and loyalty to the people of Hollister have earned you this award, Bill. Thanks for keeping the comic book culture alive.

Okay everyone, that wraps it up for my first ever comic book review. It may be rough around the edges so if you have any feedback, please feel free to comment. Thanks for taking the time to read and I hope you'll grab this book!

What's up everybody. My name is Nico, and about a year and a half ago I got heavy into reading comic books. I was more of a casual reader than anything before that. I'd pick up Batman trades now and then, maybe some random Spider-Man comics my little brother had laying around, but never really expanding my scope beyond that.

I've always had a love for Batman, though. As a young'n, my parents bought me Batman action figures, pajamas, lunch boxes, and pretty much anything else that would solidify me as hot shit on the playground. My desire to punch bad guys more often got me sent to the Principal's office than being widely recognized by my local police department, but I digress.

When I heard that Marvel was relaunching The Amazing Spider-Man, I figured this would be the best time to dive head-first into the world of comics, not knowing the full extent of the pleasure and excitement you can get from reading a 30 page book with cool drawings in it. I was instantly hooked. Every Wednesday was a new adventure from a different part of whatever world I chose. The grimy streets of Gotham, New York City's ever-eventful alleys crawling with life, or worlds I've yet to experience like the small town of Buckaroo, Oregon or our cosmic neighbor Mars, The Red Planet.

This is an introduction to what I hope will be an enjoyable reading experience. Maybe it'll persuade you to pick up an underrated book you hadn't given a second glance, or make you steer clear of a series you were skeptical about in the first place. I'll be giving my personal and honest opinions on a book each week. I'll give a little of the synopsis without being a spoiler and commenting on the art. I'm not sure which books I'll be reviewing or how I'll determine which ones I do each week. My plan is to take a different book off my weekly pull list and throw a review up for it. We'll see where that takes us. I'll try my best to make this a weekly thing. Having a job that works me 40-60 hours a week an hour away and being in school may make it somewhat difficult but I will do my best.

Alright guys. Shutting it down for now. I hope you'll check it out! Follow me on Twitter for opinionated babble about rarely anything of any real importance or substance @BiGNasty91_

Sequence Terminated (yeah I'm gonna need to think of a better sign-off)

This year's Toy Fair was probably the best one we have seen in years and I wanted to run through which reveals I am most excited about. I wasn't at Toy Fair but I was able to gather info by stalking various websites for all the updates. I'll provide all of those websites at the end of this post.  This has to be the best display Hasbro has ever done.  The amount of Marvel Legends that were revealed is insane.  I can't believe that 5 years ago this line was on the verge of dying. I remember being at Comic-con standing at the Hasbro booth for hours full of jealously because of how much attention Marvel Universe was getting while Legends got put on the back burner. Things have changed and it's  a very exciting time to be a Legends collector.

Avengers Legends Infinite Series 3

Modern Dr. Strange (this looks to be a modified version of the Bucky Cap sculpt, that now has clothes wrinkles)
Blizzard
Vision (I wish they had gone with the classic look, but still looks great)
MARVEL NOW Iron Man
Movie War Machine
Thundra
Valkyrie
Build a figure Hulk Buster Iron Man (Damn this thing looks huge)

Antman Legends Infinite Series

Ant-Man (Movie Version)
Wasp (a much needed update)
Tiger Shark
Grim Reaper (this looks like it might be a new sculpt)
Bulldozer (finally! part of me thought he would never see the light of day)
6" Giant-Man (it looks like it will be what he was wearing during Avengers Academy)
Build a figure Movie Ultron (this thing looks amazing)

Spider-Man Legends Infinite Series 2
(this is the series I am most excited about)
Scarlet-Spider(Yes! With a newly sculpted chest too)
Misty Knight (this is as random as Machine Man, very cool)
Ghost Rider (very nice use of the Star-Lord body)
Chameleon with Hammer Head and  J. Jonah Jameson alternate heads (damn 3 figures in one. This will be on the new Agent Coulson body)
White Tiger
Superior Venom
Kraven (I can not wait for this. I never picked up the goofy one Toy Biz put out a few years ago)
Build a figure Rhino with alternate heads

Avengers Movie 4 pack (Amazon Exclusive)

Thor
Black Widow
Hawkeye
Bruce Banner

Target Exclusive 3-pack

White Vision (this looks great except it has toes, I am not sure what's going on there)
Hulk
Ultron (looks like it's on the Ultimate Beetle Body)

This isn't Marvel but I am very excited about the Funko Rocketeer figure. I really liked the Magic the Gathering Legacy figures so I am sure Rocketeer will be awesome.

Although there were a lot more reveals, like Neca Godzilla, Diamond Select Ghost Buster's and Funko Legacy Firefly, I just wanted to talk about the ones I was most excited about. I still hope to see some new Planet Of The Apes stuff from Neca. Leave comments to let me know which reveals you are excited about.  Check out the links below.

Black Science, Volume 1: How To Fall Forever

Rick Remender is an incredible writer known for his series Fear Agent and his fantastic run on Uncanny X-Force. Black Science is a Sci-Fi series he is currently doing through Image Comics, with art provided by Matteo Scalera and Dean White. This volume collects issues 1-6. The story centers around Grant McKay and his group of scientists that have created a machine called the Pillar, which is able to punch holes through dimensional walls. They unwillingly get sent jumping through different dimensions, with no control over where they will be transported. To make matters worse, Grants kids have accidentally been dragged along for the ride and someone in the group has sabotaged the Pillar. During the travels the group encounters an array of strange creatures like frog people, fish people, robo indians and white apes. Grant isn't what you would call the hero type, he is actually a complete asshole. You lean towards sympathizing with him because he definitely feels bad about it, but he can't help it. There is a lingering sense of distrust and resentment within the group. Between Grants kids being angry with his shortcomings as a father and the man who financed the Pillar wanting it to fail, their is a lot of tension.  The action is fast paced and exciting from the first page to the last, and Matteo and White do a great job of creating bizarre and colorful atmospheres in each of the dimensions.  You can definitely tell the story and art are heavily influenced by those old pulp science fiction novels. I highly recommend checking this book out. I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to reading Vol.2, which just recently came out.

10th Anniversary Spawn.
If you were a comic or action figure fan in the 90's you could not escape the invasion of Spawn and McFarland toys. Along with the comics, there was a Spawn movie and a TV Show on HBO.
They had the best sculpted figures around and those damn things use to be everywhere, it was great. I remember even buying a pack of Spawn figures from Costco back then. To this day MacFarlane Toys is still putting out a bunch of dope stuff like the Walking Dead, Assassin's Creed and Halo lines.
Spawn was the most popular Image Character back then, but around 2002-2003 the figures of him became less popular, at least to me they did. They still looked great but I wasn't interested in figures with almost no articulation. That brings us to the 10th Anniversary Spawn figure, and in my opinion, THE best Spawn figure ever made.

He was released in 2002, in a series that also featured Savage Dragon, Ripclaw and Shadowhawk. All of them featured highly detailed sculpts but for the most part they were statues...except for Spawn. Spawn featured enough articulation to rival Marvel Legends and it had the sculpt fans had come to expect from McFarland products.
For the most part, the joints are useful and well hidden. He has pivoting and swiveling ankles, double jointed knees, thigh cuts, T joint hips, single jointed elbows with good range of motion, wrist swivels and joints, all the good stuff. His abdomen has a crunch joint and a swiveling joint, allowing him to get into really good hunched over poses.

The only part of the articulation set up I thought was strange was the shoulders. The arm piece only goes up and down and plugs into a shoulder joint that swings back and fourth. His arms pretty much can not go out to his sides.
He comes with his signature cape that has cuts in places that still allow you to pose him without it getting in the way. He has a real chain that connects to the skull on his waist and comes with a crucifix that you can pose him on.
This is an awesome figure and I wish they made more figures like this. I would have loved to have Redeemer to go with Mr. Simmons . I wasn't the biggest Image fan back then but I did like Spawn and I'm happy to have it in my collection.

 Thanks for reading

 Peace.
